An Gaelbhratach

The Gaelbhratach is a scheme run by Gael Linn which encourages the children to speak Irish in a fun and natural way.

We are into our 4th year of the scheme and are really noticing the difference it is making.  The school has chosen to focus on the following areas to help develop the children’s Irish:

  1. Tíonól Scoile: We have a school assembly through Irish once a month.
  2. Sliocht: Children learn a passage on a new topic every month and are able to answer questions on it.
  3. Amhráin agus Dánta: Children learn a new song each month in Irish.
  4. Sos Bogtha: Movement Breaks everyday getting the children up and moving using Irish orders.
  5. Aireachas: Mindfulness through Irish helping to promote healthy minds.
  6. Amhrán na bhFiann: Singing the National Anthem and studying it’s history.
  7. Tráth na gCeist: Quizzes in Irish.
  8. Fáilteoirí: Children are greeted at the door with phrases in Irish.
  9. Scéalaíocht: The children are read Irish stories every Wednesday.

Tráth na gCeist

Cuairteoirí sa Scoil

Ar an Déardaoin, bhí cuairteoirí againn sa scoil ó Gael Linn. Tháinig an scoil uilig le chéile agus bhí tionól againn lán le hamhráin, cluichí, aisteoireacht agus aireachas trí Ghaeilge. Rinne coiste na scoile an-obair chomh maith le Múinteoir Orla chun an tionól a eagrú. Chan an scoil uilig Amhrán na bhFiann chun é a críochnú. Is léir go bhfuil a lán obair idir láimhe ag na múinteoirí agus na daltaí i Scoil Naomh Thiarnaigh. Is aoibhinn linn an Ghaeilge!

On Thursday we had some visitors in the school from Gael Linn. The whole school came together for an assembly full of activities through the Irish language including; singing, games, drama and mindfulness. The coiste and Múinteoir Orla worked extremely hard to organise the tionól. The assembly concluded with the whole school singing our national anthem together. We all love the Irish language in St. Tiarnach’s!
