LEGO MINDSTORMS – Peace by Piece

This year in St. Tiarnach’s, the pupils from Rang a Cúig have been chosen to participate in “Lego Mindstorms – Peace by Piece” project with ten other primary and post primary schools across Co. Monaghan and Co. Armagh. The project, funded by “Peace by Piece” focuses on building bridges and knocking down barriers and is a cross community/cross border project – with training days provided for teachers and many workshops hosted for pupils in their schools.

Lego Mindstorms is an excellent opportunity for pupils to develop many areas of the curriculum and is closely associated with STEM –Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. It caters for all pupils irrespective of their academic ability or background and allows pupils to engage in fun ways of learning, developing oral language, enhancing building abilities and gives children the chance to programme their own robots using technology to allow movement.

The staff and pupils of St. Tiarnachs are delighted to receive numerous laptops and Lego equipment to use during this project and indeed for years to come, and we look forward to preparing scientists, engineers and Mathematicians of the future.
